Weekend in Altea!!!

Hi everyone!!!

As in my last post about peacock inspirations, so many of you asked about the place I went and beautiful views, I decided to make today post about Altea.

Altea is one of the prettiest places to visit on the Costa Blanca in Spain. It has retained its beauty and charm unlike many other former fishing villages.

The name Altea comes from the Greek: Altahia (I heal) and from the river Algar (the river of the health). Altea prospered due to its strategic importance because the city lies in the vicinity of the mouth of the river Algar. Altea harbor was perfect for supplying the sailors and fisherman with fresh drinking water.  Numerous groups of people settled in Altea, including the Iberians, Greeks, Romans and Moslems, what caused its amazing architecture. It came back in Spanish hands in 1244, when James I of Aragon conquered the area and repopulated with Christians, obtaining a settlement charter in 1279.

Altea is famous for the landmark church of "Church of Our Lady" (Nuestra Senora del Consuelo or Virgen de Consuelo) with its fantastic looking glazed ceramic blue roof, which is set up on a hill and can be seen for miles around.  There is magnificent view from the hill over Altea Bay with the Sierra Bernia mountain range providing an impressive backdrop.

Generally all old town part of Altea is set on a steep hillside and the medieval streets are littered with small designer shops. It’s extremely calm and romantic place. Amongst the narrow streets with their scenic white houses, orange and jasmine trees you'll find painters, potters and many other traditional craftsmen's studios. There is a real authentic Spanish feel to Altea town, often missing from others on the coast.

So if you will be close to Valencia I really recommend you this trip, the place is amazing!

W moim przedostanim poscie, zainspirowanym motywami piór pawich, uslyszalam od Was tak wiele komentarzy o przeslicznych widokach, ze dla odmiany postanowilam dzisiejszy post poswiecic Altei, gdzie niedawno spedzilam weekend.

Altea to jedno z najpiekniejszych miejsc do odwiedzenia na Costa Blanca. Jedno z niewielu, które zachowalo swój tradycyjny urok i piekno miejscowosci rybackiej.

Nazwa Altea pochodzi od greckiego wyrazu: Altahia (wyleczyc) i od rzeki Algar zwana rzeka zdrowia. Altea miala niegdys mocna pozyscje strategiczna i swietnie prosperowala ze wzgledu na swoje strategiczne polozenie u ujscia rzeki Algar. Byla portem, który zasilal zeglarzy i rybaków w swieza wode pitna. Na terenie Altei w przeciagu setek lat zdazyli sie osiedlic Hiszpanie, Grecy, Rzymianie i muzulmanie.  Powrócila w hiszpanskie rece w 1244, kiedy Jaume I Aragon podbil ten obszar i zdecydowal sie ja odbudowac w wierze chrzescijanskiej.

Najbardziej zanym zabytkiem w Altea jets Kosciól Matki Boskiej (zwany Nuestra Senora del Consuelo lub Virgen de Consuelo) z przepieknym ceramicznym niebieskim dachem . Znajduje sie on na wzgórzu i widac go w odleglosci kilku kilometrow. Ze wzgorza rozciaga sie zapierajacy dech w piersi widok na zatoke Altea I imponujace pasmo górskie Sierra Bernia. Starówka Altei znajduje sien a skromym zboczu, wiec trzeba sie przygotowac na mala wspinaczke. Wsród waskich sredniowiecznych uliczek ze swoimi malowniczymi bialymi domami, drzewkami pomaranczy i jasminu znajdziesz cudowne galerie miejscowych, urocze sklepiki i romantyczne restauracje.  Jest to jedno z niewielu miast, gdzie faktycznie poczujesz sie hiszpanska atmosfere, zwlaszcza gdy trafisz na jakis miejscowy festiwal. 

Tak wiec jesli bedziesz w okolicach Walencji czy Alicante, koniecznie wybierz sie tutaj chociaz na jednodniowa wycieczke!

Mam nadzieje, ze spodobal sie Wam troszke inny niz zazwyczaj post  i zapraszam na jutrzejszy! Podpowiem, ze bedzie o koronkach.

Como en mi ultima entrada muchos de vosotros estaban preguntado donde hice los fotos, decidí la entrada de hoy dedicar a Altea.

Altea es una de las ciudades más lindas en la Costa Blanca. Esta ciudad tiene un encanto peculiar que la hace ser más acogedora sobre todo para los turistas, quienes se sorprenden al encontrarse con tantas muestras de arte en las calles. Ha conservado su belleza y encanto a diferencia de muchos otros pueblos de pescadores.

El nombre de Altea proviene del griego: Althaia (Curo) y del río Algar (el río de la salud). Altea prosperado debido a su importancia estratégica gracias a estar cerca de la desembocadura del río Algar. Altea era antes un puerto ideal para los marineros y pescadores, porque los suministraba  con agua potable. Diferentes grupos de personas  se establecieron a lo largo de los siglos en Altea, incluidos los íberos, griegos, romanos y musulmanes. Finalmente, después de que en 1244 Jaime I de Aragón conquistó el área y la  repobló con cristianos, Altea se quedo ya en manos españoles.

Altea es famosa por la histórica "Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Consuelo o la Virgen de Consuelo, gracias a su cerámico techo de color azul que se pude ver desde  pueblos cercanos. Esta conocida también por su ubicación en la montaña y unas vistas impresionantes sobre bahía de Altea y montañas Sierra Bernia. La ciudad antigua de Altea está llena de las estrechas calles medievales con sus pintorescas casas blancas, arboles de naranja y jazmín. Subiendo hacia la Iglesia encontrarás preciosas galerías, pequeños boutiques y restaurantes muy románticos. La verdad que vas a poder respirar aquí de un auténtico aire español.
Entonces si estás cerca de Valencia o Alicante no olvides pasarte aunque sea un día en Altea.
